Tornado Siren Test
Start Date/Time:
Monday, October 1, 2018 6:00 PM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
Recurring Event:
Recurring Event On the First Monday of the month until 10/1/2018 (total 7 events)
Importance:
Normal Priority
Description:

During each test, the steady 30-second TORNADO WATCH signal will be tested first followed 4 minutes later (+/-) by the up and down signal for the TORNADO WARNING which, for the test, will be about 1 minuteAn Actual Tornado Warning signal will be 3 minutes long.

The tornado sirens are activated remotely by radio using the same channel that is used to alert fire departments to their calls.  If there is an emergency call in progress we will wait until using the frequency does not interfere with firefighters and their emergency responsibilities.  If we cannot test by 10:30 am we will most likely delay the test until Monday March 12th.

Sirens are tested once each month on the first Monday of the month from March through October.  The March and September tests are normally scheduled at 10 am to allow schools that are located near a siren to participate in a tornado drill during the tests if they wish to do so.   The April, May, June, July, August and October tests are conducted at 6 pm.  The September test is always conducted on the second Monday due to Labor Day.
