Residential trash pickup and recycling provided by Modern Waste Systems

Each residence is provided with one garbage cart and one recycling cart. Additional garbage carts can be provided for an extra fee. Contact the Litchfield City Clerk at 517-542-2921 ext. 133 for more information.

Garbage is collected weekly on Wednesday. Recycling is collected bi-weekly on Wednesday.

Holiday Schedule:
If the regular garbage and/or recycling collection date falls on or after the following holidays, the collection will be one day late. Only the following holidays are observed:

• New Year’s Day
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving
• Christmas

Carts must be placed curbside by 6:00 a.m. to ensure pickup.

Each residence is allowed to place their cart with no more than 3 additional garbage bags curbside each week. Large bulk items are not acceptable with your residential garbage collection. Arrangements can be made with Modern Waste for an extra fee to pick up large items.

There is a city-wide junk pickup in the summer. The exact date will be provided when it becomes available. A list of acceptable and unacceptable items will also be provided.

The City of Litchfield does provide a recycling dump for CARDBOARD ONLY. It is located on W Saint Joe Street, by the old Department of Public Works building.
