Notice for City Residents

If you experience an overflow or back up of a sewage disposal system or storm water system, you must immediately file a written claim with the City of Litchfield after the back up or overflow has been discovered.  Notice should be mailed to the City Clerk’s office at 221 Jonesville St., Litchfield, MI 49252-0236.  Contact Tony Langhann at (517) 542-2921 ext. 129 immediately upon discovery of an overflow or back up.  You must obtain a separate insurance rider for sewer back up claims!

Attention Snow Birds!

Sign up for automatic payment for your water bill OR call or e-mail the City Clerk to temporarily change the mailing address for your bill.

Please be sure to notify us when you return to Litchfield so we can update your address. The water can be shut off at the curb to limit concerns with pipes freezing within the building.

Monthly Utility Bill Breakdown

Water

$6.58 per 1,000 gallons

This rate is referred to as the commodity charge based upon the metered amount of water used and reflects the utility’s unit cost to treat the water. This charge is for operation, maintenance and replacement of the water system.

Ready to Serve

$7.80 Monthly System Maintenance Fee – 3/4″ meter

This rate is a flat charge referred to as the availability charge which reflects the utility’s cost to keep water available even if none is being used and is based upon your meter size.

$14.68 Monthly System Maintenance Fee

This rate is a flat charge referred to as the availability charge for unmetered wastewater services and reflects the utility’s cost to treat wastewater even if none is being used.

Sewer

$4.74 per 1,000 gallons

This charge is for the operation, maintenance, and replacement of the wastewater system; this charge is based on the metered water consumption. Sewer charges are not based on sewage flow as that would be very expensive. Therefore, the charge is based on water consumption because, the more water you use, the more wastewater the City must transport and ultimately treat before it can be released back into our eco-system.

Solid Waste

$43.21

This residential fee covers the cost of maintaining the Sanitation fund, which includes curbside recycling, brush pickup, leaf pickup, and regular garbage pickup. Seniors over the age of 55 are eligible for a discounted rate of $39.82. Extra garbage and recycling cans are available for $10.00 per can.
